Match Report - P3, P4 & P5's go to Mackie |
|
|
|
Twas a cold and wintry day in Aberdeen on that Sunday morn' of the 23rd of November. When we set off with limited numbers and some trepidation to take on the hoards from Mackie. Fortunately when we got to Mackie the sun was out and we got an excellent welcome from the Mackie boys and coaches. We all mixed in and started doing a warm up together. |
We then split into 3 teams of seven, with Mackie supplying us with some team members. There was no doubt that the Mackie teams were bigger, so it was clear that we would have our work cut-out. They went ahead initially but Neil & I knew it would be our day when Dom aka "pockets" muscled his way over for our first try. It was end to end stuff but man of the match for me was Liam. His tackling round the legs of far bigger boys was excellent. Add to that his try's and his all round work rate, he was a credit to us all. |
The second game initially was not so good, maybe we were tired from the first 20 minutes game or maybe, the 20 minute break between games had an effect but we did not start well and consequently we lost a few try's. |
At the risk of using a football term, it was a game of two halves. We came back strongly, scoring several try's through Liam & Mark. It was like a different team with far more effort from all. To sum up, it was a great day, well supported by parents and excellent hospitality from Mackie. Liam was our best player with several try's, lot's of good runs and great tackling - what more can I say. |
Dom worked hard, in at the heart of any wrestling match, winning us the ball and scoring a try when it was needed. With a bit straighter running, he will get more - I was tired out watching him run across the pitch. |
James whilst not his usual dynamic self, still weighed in with a full length sprint of the park leaving players in his wake on his way to scoring a try. |
Mark, worked hard, putting in a lot of tackles. For his size it was impressive to watch the way he kept his legs pumping in the tackle - time and again gaining extra yards dragging larger players with him. He scored 2 very good try's and came close to several more. |

Thanks boys for all the effort - Ian Clayton. |
