A Huge thanks to Parents |
A hught team effort has occured over recent weeks and is greatly appreciated by everyone at Shire. Firstly Barney and myself would like to thank everyone involved in transporting children to and from Ellon to the the S1/S2 tournament. A good day was had by all with the children gaining some valuable game experience. |
Also the parents at U16 level have pulled together and managed to transport the boys to Inverurie, this saves the club a lot of money on buses and can be channelled back into other activities |

U16 Match Report - Shire v Garioch |
The game was very evenly contested in the first half, Shire having a slight advantage with the better rucking but Garioch were always a threat with the slicker handling in the backs. This led to Garioch scoring two breakaway tries. This tested Shires resolve but after a great run by Paul Smith the ball was presented on a plate and Darren McConnach drove over for the try which he also converted. |
The second half was a different story with the Garioch backs running in 3 unanswered tries. Unfortunately big Cooky being injured did not help our cause, watching from the touchline, his frustration boiled over, resulting in his mum having to come from Bucksburn with his kit. This changed the game with Shire on top for the last 15 minutes, resulting in Stephen Cook smashing over the line after 2 minutes on the pitch, Darren converting again. A great effort by all if only Cooky had stayed off his bike! |
Good to see Jamie Stephen back in a Shire shirt and a gritty display from our new recruit Stephen Bremner earned him man of the match. |
Funniest moment of the day was when Darren called for the kicking tee from ryan on the touchline, he ran on but so did our lucky mascot Barney, resulting in Ryan falling flat on his face over the dog - this put a smile on eveybody's face |
