Mini's Newsletter - 03/10/04

Hello to all the Minis!

Welcome to the first newsletter of the season. It's been great to see so many new faces and to welcome the old ones back. We're already 6 weeks in and had a couple of games. It's as though we never had a summer break! If you have any friends, brothers or sisters whom you think might be interested in playing rugby then bring them down!

A few reminders

For insurance purposes could you please ensure you have handed in a completed registration form. From a safety point of view, remember your gum shield every week. These are available from most sport stores or from our own Kelly along with a wide selection of Colts kit / merchandise (details on reverse).

Please also remember your match fees (£1) whenever we play a game, home or away. This fee goes towards the running costs of the club and helps keep the £5 membership charge so low.

Autumn Tests

We are planning a trip for the kids to one of Scotland's Autumn Tests, probably South Africa at Murrayfield on the 27th November. We have run similar events in the past and the guys seem to enjoy themselves. The cost per ticket is £10, and if we can get organised quickly enough the SRU will pay for the hire of a bus.

With that in mind we need a quick response from parents / guardians as to whether your child can go and to part with your hard earned cash. Due to time restraints we need this to be paid by the 10th October (our last training day before we break for the school holidays). This trip will be for P4 and above. Due to the length of the trip (up to 12hours) please ensure you have completed a registration form fully to make us aware of any special requirements for your child.

Please contact any of the coaches for more information

P6 -P7 Report

Great to see so many new faces like Shaun, Steven and Rhys starting and some "old faces" like Bilal, Thongchai & Craigie back. We feel sure we have a great mix of lads going into this season. A key thing to remember is that we want to have fun, make new friends and improve our skills (especially the coaches). That's not to say we don't want to win as well just that it is not our only priority.

After just a couple of training sessions together, we took on the might of Garioch. All their boys had played before - one of which was huge - I thought he was a coach (aye he was the size of a bus). It was a hard game for our less experienced team but we stuck in. Although we were beaten, that was not the main thing. Steven in his first game scored his first try - well done Steven - I am certain there is a lot more to come. Yohan tackled round the legs repeatedly, taking the big lad down. Craig did his usual darting runs and all the boys got on and "had a go" - we could not ask for more.

What a difference a week makes

Despite it being only a week later, what a difference. Although it was a Saturday we almost had a full turn out at Wanderers - thanks to all parents. Although we were playing in mixed teams, it was clear who was putting in the effort and Scoring and Tackling. It would be unfair to pick out individuals but hey life's like that so here goes:

Gary what came over you - 6 try's all action, all running - best I have seen you play. Steven - told you would score more and you certainly did - good advice from your dad re the tackling - it will definitely get better. Shaun - heaps of surging runs and a least one try. Stewart - you looked like you had a few good runs. Craig - good all round performance, carry on with running like that and one day you will be as good as me (ho ho). Mark - slow start but once you got stuck in, the try's & tackles came, as we are used to.

Liam - as ever consistent, great tackler and good runs. Scott - some good runs. Thongchai - I saw you bouncing people off you with a smile on your face - great running. Luke - good all round performance. Rhys - gaining confidence, got stuck in and did a few tackles. Ritchie - what can I say, if it moved you tackled it - including your own players!!!!

The improvement was marked - but what particularly impressed us coaches were the smiles on your faces. We have a lot to learn but with that level of commitment and fun - it's coming.

Thanks very much lads - you were great.
