After a distinct lack of young players emerging in the teams at senior level, it was decided to re-establish the Colts section. After a lot of hard work from Jack Winton and others, a constitution was established and the ball was rolling.
Our Sponsors
The first season was spent recruiting and working hard to attract players to something apart from soccer which is the prominent sport in the local schools.
Aberdeenshire now employ 2 part-time development officers to introduce rugby into the local community. This has proved successful as the youth section has grown to around 75 members, fielding teams right up to under 18 level.
Thanks to the dedication of volunteers and players alike, the future of the colts section is looking healthy with several players playing area and district rugby.

Youth Section - Aims And Objectives
"To develop rugby in Aberdeen as an inclusive sport which all children can experience in a safe environment, which nurtures their talents through well organised structures, and encourages continued involvement into adulthood for the benefit of the individuals and their communities."
Aberdeenshire established a youth section as long ago as the 60's and the emphasis of providing an outlet for local children has continued since then. In the past, we have been able to boast youth teams who have been successful in winning league titles and seven-a-side competitions as well as providing new blood for the senior side. The current youth section have focused in developing the talent in the areas close to Woodside and we presently have players involved at primary and secondary school levels.
As part of Aberdeenshire R.F.C.'s responsibility to provide sport for the local community, the club now employs a full time Community Rugby Development Manager.
This activity has resulted in a flourishing Youth Section who are attracting an ever increasing number of youngsters down to Woodside. There are now sides playing at Mini, Midi and Youth Level and it is particularly rewarding to note the number of youngsters attending from the local community who will be the future lifeblood of the club.
Several examples of the success of the clubs long-term youth policy are closely involved with the club at present:-
Graeme Ferguson - a product of our Colts side where he won several honours, Graeme is a past 1st XV captain whose flair and kicking abilities have won many games for the club.
Graeme Buchan - another former Colt, Graeme was capped at prop for the North & Midlands Under-18 and Under-21 side and went on to shine in the 1st XV for many years. Graeme is now a Director of the club and has been responsible for the recent significant contribution that our many sponsors have made to the running of the club.
Clayton Jamieson - Clayton was a past captain of the Colts side and, having qualified as a teacher of physical education, went on to play rugby at a high level before focusing on his career. He has recently come back to the club as coach of one of our Mini sides and has done great work in attracting a large number of enthusiastic local kids into playing rugby.
